The subject for my latest technology comparison is my new Canon Elph Digital Camera, of which I can not say enough nice things.
I unfortunately have some not-so-nice things to say about some of three 3D technologies.
First take a look at the models.

Conclusions
I purposely made this model somewhat polygon heavy, it weighs in at about 20000 polys.
Cult3D Cult’s real strength is pushing around polys. None of the other software packages performed as well when it comes down to fps. Nuff said.
Shockwave It becomes clear very quickly that Shockwave3D is not polygon friendly. Firstly, there was no amount of compression that did not result in render errors, even with the geometry compression set to 100 quality. This also affects file size, the shockwave version comes in around 650 kb, whereas both the Cult3D and Viewpoint models were around 190kb. There are any number of ways to reduce poly data, Shockwave does not seem to have implemented any of them. Performance is also an issue here, even with a Geforce card, the model playback is choppy.
Viewpoint Once again I was forced to set the compression to minimal, even still the final model has render errors. Viewpoint has also decided to make adding reflection maps as painful as possible, so I avoided adding them. I was surprised to discover performance issues with the viewpoint model as well.
All around a disappointing comparison. In order to make inroads into product visualization, these technologies are simply going to have to push more polys.
